Waiting on Wednesday – One Dark Throne

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week I am waiting (and appears I will continue to wait for the ending) for One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake

Expected publication: September 19th 2017 by Harper Teen

29923707The battle for the Crown has begun, but which of the three sisters will prevail?

With the unforgettable events of the Quickening behind them and the Ascension Year underway, all bets are off. Katharine, once the weak and feeble sister, is stronger than ever before. Arsinoe, after discovering the truth about her powers, must figure out how to make her secret talent work in her favor without anyone finding out. And Mirabella, once thought to be the strongest sister of all and the certain Queen Crowned, faces attacks like never before—ones that put those around her in danger she can’t seem to prevent.

In this enthralling sequel to Kendare Blake’s New York Times bestselling Three Dark Crowns, Fennbirn’s deadliest queens must face the one thing standing in their way of the crown: each other (goodreads summary)

Why I Am Waiting

Well I was anxious to see what happened after the cliff hanger of Three Dark Crowns and get to the end of the conclusion of the story, buuuuut it appears that due to the overwhelming popularity of the first book Kendare Blake has now decided to extend the series from two books to FOUR. FOUR! ugh WHY?! Dulogies are great! I really liked this first book and was intrigued by this strange island that had queens kill of their sisters with their magical abilities in order to win their crown. But I’m not sure this story is enough for FOUR books.

Sorry this waiting on Wednesday post has turned into whining on Wednesday about waiting for more books. I’m still excited for the release of One Dark Throne though, just bummed I wont get the conclusion I was waiting for just yet.

BTW if you have read TDC who is your favorite queen? I’m still a little torn between Arsinoe and Katharine. I just wish Jules could be queen. She’s the toughest of them all. Watch that be a twist in one of the newly added books! HA!

All The Feels – Book Review

Author: Daria Stone
Published: June 7th 2016 by Swoon Reads
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Nerd
Rating: ★★★✰✰

ATF_LD_DoodlesCollege freshman Liv is more than just a fangirl: The Starveil movies are her life… So, when her favorite character, Captain Matt Spartan, is killed off at the end of the last movie, Liv Just. Can’t. Deal.

Tired of sitting in her room sobbing, Liv decides to launch an online campaign to bring her beloved hero back to life. With the help of her best friend, Xander, actor and steampunk cosplayer extraordinaire, she creates #SpartanSurvived, a campaign to ignite the fandom. But as her online life succeeds beyond her wildest dreams, Liv is forced to balance that with the pressures of school, her mother’s disapproval, and her (mostly nonexistent and entirely traumatic) romantic life. A trip to DragonCon with Xander might be exactly what she needs to figure out what she really wants. (Goodreads Summary)

I am getting really into the fangirl/nerd books lately. Any that I can find I grab up and blow through them! Eliza and Her Monsters, Geekerella and Fangirl of course ( I reread it constantly) and now we have the appropriately titled All The Feels!

Similar to Geekerella our MC Liv is obsessed with Starveil (not Starfield, not Star Wars, not Star Trek.. they’re going to run out of Star related titles here pretty soon) and ends up attending a convention with her best friend. Liv is devastate when she attends the midnight premiere of the newest Starveil movie and he favorite character is killed off at the very end.  Starveil had been something that she has shared with her late father. It felt like her last connection to him. Shocked and distraught Liv mopes around for weeks before coming up with a plan to save Spartan.

“She’d just thrown gasoline on the fire. Now it was up to fandom to keep it burning.”

I could sympathize with Liv on a certain level. I remember when Allegiant was first released. I drove straight to the book store after work, bought my copy I had on hold, drove straight home and read it straight through to the bitter end. Where, through tears blurring my vision, I hurled it across the room and sat in socked silence for the rest of the night. I felt as though I had lost a friend and was in a depressed fog for about a week. But I got over it (the god awful movies helped a bit) unlike Liv, she cannot let it go. Part of me wanted to shake her! Honey are in college now GROW UP! It started to get in the way of life, so much so that it impacted her hygiene and relationships with the few people in her life. Which is sad, she really doesn’t have much of a life outside of Starveil and the internet.

Her mom wants her to let the fandom go and Liv freaks out. I can understand both sides. The nerd in me could never let go of my love for Harry Potter. But the adult in me also knows that only living in a fantasy world is unhealthy and it is screwing with her future. She bombed her SATs in high school and living her Starveil life online is affecting her current college classes. So I agree with her mother, but not the way she went about banishing Fandom from Liv’s life.

Her BFF Xander is ultra supportive, more so then I would ever expect anyone to be. He lets her whine and mope and does what he can to cheer her up. He is an awesome friend. I love his cosplay style of steampunk 1800’s ware. Makes me think of Will Herondale from The Infernal Devices. He ends up taking her to DragonCon with him. It was fun to experience Liv’s first con though her eyes.

I loved that each chapter began with a quote from a different fandom, like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Dr. Who. It was so nerdy I loved it! I really enjoyed this book, it was a cute fun read, the only problem I had was Liv’s obsession being so unhealthy to the point where it was negatively affecting the few relationships she had IRL. If you love fandoms and conventions and geeky romance I would recommend All The Feels.

This week I am waiting waiting WAITING on Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas

31450852In the next installment of the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series, follow Chaol on his sweeping journey to a distant empire.

Chaol Westfall has always defined himself by his unwavering loyalty, his strength, and his position as the Captain of the Guard. But all of that has changed since the glass castle shattered, since his men were slaughtered, since the King of Adarlan spared him from a killing blow, but left his body broken.

His only shot at recovery lies with the legendary healers of the Torre Cesme in Antica—the stronghold of the southern continent’s mighty empire. And with war looming over Dorian and Aelin back home, their survival might lie with Chaol and Nesryn convincing its rulers to ally with them.

But what they discover in Antica will change them both—and be more vital to saving Erilea than they could have imagined. (Goodreads summary)

Why I Am Waiting

  • Because Sarah J. Maas
  • Because Empire of Storms destroyed me and I need MORE!
  • Because it feels like A Court of Wings and Ruin seems like forever ago.
  • Because Sarah J. Maas
  • Because even though Chaol isn’t anywhere close to being by favorite character ( I seem to be in the minority here) I am very curious about the southern continent, we only explored a small fraction in The Assassin’s Blade stories. I want more.
  • Because I want more Nesryn.
  • Because I need more of this world.
  • SARAH J. FREAKIN MAAS!
